 The Golden
Retrievers of the Cat World are also known as Gentle Giants.
The Ragdoll is a relatively new breed created by
selectively breeding Birman, Persian and Siamese type stock. By 1971, the Ragdoll became a
registered breed with the goal of preserving its sweet temperament. The Ragdolls
success resulted from the demand for placid, indoor-dwelling cats. In Australia, Ragdolls
are the preferred cat breed as they show little enthusiasm for hunting the continents many
endangered species of birds.

The Ragdoll holds the
record as the worlds largest cat; males are generally fifteen to twenty pounds but
can reach as much as thirty pounds while females typically weigh about ten pounds. |
The Ragdolls name derives from a
surprising trait of flopping over like a childs cloth doll when picked up. Their
even temperament, good health and devotion to their owners make Ragdolls the perfect
pet. The fact that they are beautiful is a bonus. Although their coat is long and silky
like rabbit fur, they shed very little and their coat rarely mats. Ragdolls can be
found in several color patterns but all have large stunning blue eyes.
Ragdolls adapt with ease and are excellent with
children and pets. They are not shy in the least and often greet their owners at the door
much like a puppy would. They usually come when called and many like to retrieve.
